ISO 9001:2000
Smith Transport has once again demonstrated that we are Dedicated to Excellence and continues to show leadership within the trucking industry with registration of our management system to the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Standard on September 25, 2002 as a result of an extensive audit of our corporate office.
ISO 9001:2000 is an internationally recognized standard for quality that requires that we describe and document all key work processes, perform these processes precisely as described, continually improve the way we do things, and constantly focus on the needs of the customer.
Smith Transport is one of an elite few carriers registered to the new ISO 9001:2000 standard that was developed by an international body of quality management system experts in December of 2000. Qualifying for registration to this standard is an extensive process taking at least six months and up to two years for some companies to complete.
The advantage that Smith Transport has over other carriers as a result of our ISO registration is as follows;
- Better documentation of how our processes are performed
- Better and more systematic employee training
- Greater ability to correct problems or prevent problems before they occur
- Better internal communication and more flexibility in addressing customer needs
- Better productivity resulting from planning and teamwork
- Greater employee awareness of quality and how their job impacts customer satisfaction.
- Better external communication and the ability to use customer feedback in our efforts to continually improve our services.
The ISO 9001:2000 registered quality system allows Smith Transport to utilize the knowledge, intelligence and expertise of everyone within the organization to identify and solve problems, develop process improvements, and to continually focus on satisfying the needs of the customer.
