The continuing growth and success of Smith Transport depends heavily on our ability to maintain the equipment used to protect and transport our customer’s freight. The trailer shop was developed to ensure that this maintenance takes place and has evolved over the years into an innovative major repair facility within Smith Transport. Smith Transport trailer shop personnel can perform all of the usual repairs to lights, brakes and dolly legs but are also capable of doing far more. As our fleet of trailers grew so did the need for structural repairs. Since the Smith Transport trailer is unique to our specifications, we have trained our personnel to conduct all types of repairs including the replacement of roofs, sides, floors, frames, suspensions, and doors.
The high caliber our facility as well as our overall approach to the purchasing and maintenance of trailers allows Smith Transport to be proactive with repairs instead of reactive. All our shops produce data about repeated trailer repairs so we can build a better unit for our customers. This data also allows us to identify components to be used because of our special needs and when purchasing trailers in groups, we also purchase these additional components that will be needed to make the timely repairs. Our shops also perform tests for manufacturers of trailers to assist with the improved performance and development of their products as well as to benefit the customers of Smith Transport.
Understanding of the importance of a high quality trailer shop and teamwork between our vendors, technicians and drivers has allowed Smith Transport to provide our customers with the safest and best-looking trailers on the highway.
